York police look for owners of $500K in recovered stolen jewelry

York Regional Police are looking for the owners of more than $500,000 in stolen jewelry following an investigation into alleged distraction thefts targeting older adults.

In a June press release, police said two 26-year-olds from Toronto were each facing two counts of robbery, plus charges for theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 in relation to the stolen items.

The police said that the suspects, operating an SUV, would approach and start speaking with older adults.

During their interactions, the suspects would allegedly replace the victims’ real jewelry with costume jewelry and in some cases

Over $500,000 in stolen jewelry has been recovered.

York Regional Police are asking for the public’s help locating the rightful owners of a large stash of jewelry they have recovered.

Police say two women were allegedly involved in distraction thefts and robberies within the York Region.

Driving an SUV, the two young women would approach seniors and start a conversation. During the interactions, the police said the women would replace the victims’ real jewelry with cheap costume jewelry.

In some instances, they used force and assaulted the victims when attempting to remove the jewelry.

2 arrested for Oakville jewelry store robbery

Halton police has made a pair of arrests after a jewelry store on Lakeshore Road in Oakville was robbed last weekend.

On June 10 at around 2:45 am, a glass door of Avalon Fine Jewelery was smashed and large quantity of jewelry stolen, police said in a news release. Four days later, Jarreh Grant (32) of Hamilton and Sarah Skrtich (33) of Hamilton were arrested.

Thieves steals $500K in jewelry, cash from local store after cutting through the roof

FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Fairfield Twp. are looking for a pair or team of thieves who may have seen one too many heist movies.

Police investigators say the thieves broke into a jewelry store on Hamilton-Middletown Road by cutting through its roof and then stealing around $500,000 worth of jewels and cash.
