Customer buying expensive jewelry was followed for miles, hours before the robbery, investigators say

SAN ANTONIO – A Bexar County man left The Shops at La Cantera without thinking he would become the target of a crime known as “jugging.”

John, who wanted to remain anonymous to protect his family, said he had no idea thieves were going the extra mile to rob people.

“I walked out of this store and then ended up going from that store to go have dinner with the family and still had no idea and was completely unaware that I had become a mark,” he said.

Thieves watched, followed and waited for over an hour and a half.

York police look for owners of $500K in recovered stolen jewelry

York Regional Police are looking for the owners of more than $500,000 in stolen jewelry following an investigation into alleged distraction thefts targeting older adults.

In a June press release, police said two 26-year-olds from Toronto were each facing two counts of robbery, plus charges for theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 in relation to the stolen items.

The police said that the suspects, operating an SUV, would approach and start speaking with older adults.

During their interactions, the suspects would allegedly replace the victims’ real jewelry with costume jewelry and in some cases

2 arrested for Oakville jewelry store robbery

Halton police has made a pair of arrests after a jewelry store on Lakeshore Road in Oakville was robbed last weekend.

On June 10 at around 2:45 am, a glass door of Avalon Fine Jewelery was smashed and large quantity of jewelry stolen, police said in a news release. Four days later, Jarreh Grant (32) of Hamilton and Sarah Skrtich (33) of Hamilton were arrested.

Victoria jewelry store vows to stay open after armed robbery

The owner of a century-old jewelry store in Victoria says staff have no plans to close up shop after a dramatic armed robbery over the weekend.

Surveillance video of the robbery shows a man entering the store and pulling out a hammer, smashing display cases and stealing items.
