Global crime rings are ‘targeting’ Canada as auto thefts rise, officials say

International crime rings are “targeting” Canada and orchestrating auto thefts across the country, including in Toronto, officials have told Global News.

In 2022, auto thefts overtook break-and-enters as the second most prevalent crime in the city, jumping up to 9,439 incidents from 6,518 in 2021, according to police data. That’s a 44.8 per cent increase.

Scientists find dense rings around dwarf planet, but can’t quite explain why

New telescope data has revealed that a dwarf planet in the outer reaches of the solar system has a dense ring around it, leaving scientists and astronomers confused as to why.

Scientists at the European Space Agency announced Wednesday that data and observations of the planet Quaoar which was collected between 2018 and 2021 —from ground-based telescopes, and the space-based telescope Cheops — led them to the discovery.

PATTON — A beloved Patton bartender known for being a caring and selfless person was moved to tears when the community rallied together to replace her lost class ring.

Thirsty Dawg Taverne bartender Kathy Helbig, a 1984 graduate of Cambria Heights High School, was at work in December when she noticed her class ring was missing. She had gotten so used to wearing the ring that she didn’t realize it was missing and couldn’t pinpoint exactly when she lost it.
