‘Mommy bandits’ grab jewelry, designer merchandise at La Jolla shop

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Surveillance video shows a stunning crime playing out in a La Jolla shop: women holding young children in one arm and stealing with the other.

Lucie BongLai Le says she was filled with dread, after discovering missing items at the 2nd Act West, the consignment shop she’s owned for 9 years.

When she looked at the surveillance video, the dread turned to something else.

“I feel a different anger each time I watch it,” said Le.

Calgary police release photos of recovered jewelry

Calgary police are hoping to return some stolen jewelry that has recently been recovered.

Investigators believe the jewelry was stolen from various homes throughout the city between April 6 and May 5.

It was seized by police as they searched a home in the 0-100 block of Berkley Place NW and another in the 100 block of Bermuda Lane NW on April 18.

Photos of the jewelry have been posted to the Calgary Police Service’s Facebook page, and anyone who believes they may be the rightful owner of any of the pieces is asked to call 403-266-1234.

Las Vegas maid stole $768,000 in jewelry from hotel room, police say

A housekeeper for a Las Vegas hotel was charged for allegedly stealing more than $750,000 worth of jewelry from a room last month, including designer watches, bracelets and necklaces, according to police and court files obtained by The Washington Post.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department identified Amanda Melendez from housekeeping logs and key card tracking information at Vdara Hotel & Spa, an MGM property on the Strip. Investigators also unearthed a recording of a collect phone call to Melendez from Clark County Detention Center in which she describes the stolen items to an apparent romantic partner in the prison,
