The 2023 Tony Awards turned into a massive “Sweet Caroline” singalong during a live rendition of the Neil Diamond musical “A Beautiful Noise.”
Jessica Chastain, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Barry Manilow were among the stars singing in their seats Sunday at Washington Heights’ United Palace as star Will Swenson strummed on stage.
“Ladies and gentleman, this might be the greatest ‘Sweet Caroline’ singalong in history!” Swenson proclaimed.
The rousing rendition was included at Sunday’s show despite “A Beautiful Noise” not receiving any nominations. Many considered the shutout among the biggest snubs at this year’s ceremony.
Swenson and Mark Jacoby, who played Diamond at different stages of his life, both received nominations at previous award shows for their portrayals.
