Arijit Singh Says ‘So Much Controversy Over A Color’ After Him Singing ‘Gerua’ Triggered Political Debate

After Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s Besharam Rang, Arijit Singh found himself in a bit of a pickle after singing Gerua at the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) 2022 in December. The event was reportedly attended by CM Mamata Banerjee along with other dignitaries from Bollywood like Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and more.

According to a report from Indian Express, Arijit Singh who is known to shy away from the camera when it comes to his personal life broke his silence over the controversy during his recent concert in Kolkata. The actor questioned what all the fuss was about over him singing ‘rang de tu mohe gerua’?

”So much controversy over a color, it is strange. If Swami ji wore white, would there be controversy over white too?” the singer addressed the controversy.

For those unaware, after Arijit belted out Rang de tu mohe gerua at KIFF 2022, his concert which was supposed to be held on February 18 was cancelled. There were reports claiming that it was a direct result of him singing that particular song. According to reports, the opposition BJP accused the ruling Trinamool Congress and CM Mamata Banerjee of being offended by Arijit’s choice of song.

However, according to the outlet, West Bengal minister Firhad Hakim later set records straight that the singer’s concert was canceled due to the G20 event which was being held in the same area.
