Laboratory-grown diamonds are booming in popularity, as newlyweds opt for a more sustainable alternative to mined gems. Some jewelers say interest has grown by more than 2,000 percent in five years, as people look for more affordable options.

Physically and chemically identical to their natural counterpart, but costing up to 85 percent less, lab-grown diamonds are increasingly being seen as the better-value alternative.

And a study of 1,500 would-be husbands and wives found 70 percent would be willing to opt for a lab-grown alternative.

‘Diamond’ wildfire continues to burn in the outskirts of Phoenix as residents return following evacuations

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – A fast-growing brush fire temporarily prompted evacuations in the outskirts of Scottsdale, Arizona, as fire crews worked to contain the blaze.

The Diamond Fire quickly grew to 2,500 acres, prompting evacuations in North Scottsdale and Southwest Rio Verde. The fire is just outside the Tonto National Forest.

As of late Wednesday evening, the fire decreased to 1,960 acres and was 30% contained but still poses a threat.

CarbonVero Tool Tracing Carbon Emissions, Energy Consumption in Diamond Production, Launched in Paris

PARIS — Diamond trading company Andre Messika Ltd on Monday unveiled CarbonVero, a disclosure tool meant to calculate the carbon footprint of individual natural diamonds.

The announcement was made at the “Diamond Transformation, Environmental & Social Impact Across the Diamond Industry” panel organized by the Natural Diamond Council in Paris that included Watch & Jewelery Initiative 2030 executive director Iris Van der Veken, Kering’s chief sustainability and institutional affairs officer Marie -Claire Daveu, global sustainability consultancy Eco Age co-founder and creative director Livia Firth and other diamond industry executives.

Here’s where the Diamond Fire is burning in north Scottsdale

The Diamond Fire burning in north Scottsdale has forced evacuations and multiple closures.

The 2,500-acre wildfire is at 30% containment as of June 29, according to the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. More than 100 homes in Scottsdale have been evacuated, according to the city.

The Diamond Fire started near 130th Street and Ranch Gate Road in north Scottsdale, 11 miles southwest of the Rio Verde Foothills community.

The fire began moving east toward McDowell Mountain Regional Park, according to Scottsdale police.

Diamond’s DART-750 Makes First Flight

The DART-750, a new all-composite aerobatic trainer from Diamond Aircraft, made its first flight on June 12 at Wiener Neustadt East Airport (LOAN) in Austria.

The DART-750, powered by a 750 hp Pratt & Whitney PT6A-25C powerplant, has already arrived at the Paris-Le Bourget Airport (LFPB), where it will be on static display all week at the Paris Air Show, beginning Monday.
