That’s right; your little finger is getting as much attention as your ring, pointer and middle finger. If you watched Season 3 of Emily In Paris, you will have noticed that the costume designer Marilyn Fitoussi changes the ever-chic French Sylvie’s (Camille Razat, Philippine) pinky rings in almost every episode. And Sylvie wears them for much of the season.

You also might have picked up on the thin cross-over ring diamond ring that Meghan Markle wore at the Invictus Games in 2021. Or, more recently, Emma Roberts on Kelly and Ryan Live in Rainbow K pinky rings promoting her upcoming film Maybe I do.
Celebrities at red carpet events have been wearing them for years. Although some might have gone unnoticed due to larger statement earrings, others have been making a statement.
And Instagram is blowing up with photos of jewelry designers showing rings on every finger with diamonds and other signets or initial rings on the pinky.

A brief history of the pinky ring: They were originally worn in Europe by male royals who donned signs with their coat of arms or regal crests. During the 19th century, Queen Victoria (who set many a trend) wore a pinky ring, a style that all of her sons adopted. Interestingly, this period was when both married men and those who did not wish to marry wearing pinky rings to signify that they were not looking for a bride. The pinky ring spread to the upper-crust society in Europe and across the pond signifying power, wealth, honor or position in society. Dandies wore them in Edwardian times and were well-loved in the US by men and women during the Jazz Age when self-expression was all the rage.
King Charles III carried on the royal tradition of wearing the signet ring bearing the symbol of the Prince of Wales on his pinky since the 1970s, which once belonged to his Uncle Edward, The Duke of Windsor and which he recently passed on to his son Prince William.

The Rat Pack’s Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Frank Sinatra

These rings, which also stood for honor, loyalty and being part of a clan, earned a bad rep as far as ‘style appeal’ unless you were a gangster. This was due to their association with real-life gangsters and the Cosa Nostra, portrayed in every mob movie you can think of: “The Godfather Trilogy,” “Goodfellas,” “Casino,” “Donnie Brasco,” and of course, on TV- the hit HBO series“The Sopranos.”

But over the years, the appeal returned and started evoking an incredible sex appeal when guys like Brad Pitt and, more recently, Tom Holland started wearing them. Holland, who wore his grandfather’s signet on his pinky spoke out about losing it on talk shows.

And now, pinky rings have once again become a trend. For women, they signify self-expression, empowerment and individualism in a variety of styles.
