Peabody police arrested a 27-year-old man Monday after he allegedly robbed the Kay Jewelers at Northshore Mall while wearing a “Scream” mask.

Peabody resident Starlin Batista allegedly robbed the store just before 1 pm by handing a threatening note to a store employee and motioning that he had a gun, Peabody police said in a news release.

A Mount Pearl business owner is warning businesses to become vigilantes after he was scammed out of almost $100,000 at the end of last year.

Rohit Verma, who owns NL Gold Factory in Mount Pearl, was contacted by someone in Montreal who was interested in his jewelry after seeing it on social media in November. The two spokes over telephone and text messages, with Verma saying there were no immediate red flags.

4 men were sentenced for armed robbery of a Glendale jewelry store last year

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced Monday that a judge has sentenced four defendants in the 2022 armed robbery of a Glendale jewelry store.

In March of 2022, four men walked into a Glendale jewelry store wearing ski masks and brandishing a weapon with the intent to commit robbery.

Nine employees and customers had their wallets and phones taken and were held hostage while the robbers put $1.5 million in jewelry and cash into pillowcases. The hostages had been threatened with a weapon and some were zip-tied.
