Recovered jewelry needs to be reclaimed: Police

Over $500,000 in stolen jewelry has been recovered.

York Regional Police are asking for the public’s help locating the rightful owners of a large stash of jewelry they have recovered.

Police say two women were allegedly involved in distraction thefts and robberies within the York Region.

Driving an SUV, the two young women would approach seniors and start a conversation. During the interactions, the police said the women would replace the victims’ real jewelry with cheap costume jewelry.

In some instances, they used force and assaulted the victims when attempting to remove the jewelry.

A Guelph, Ont., woman had her jewelry stolen in an apparent distraction theft.

The Guelph Police Service responded to an area on Vancouver Drive Sunday afternoon.

Investigators me a man and a woman in a newer model black pickup truck, possibly a Dodge Ram, pulled up to the victim who was out doing yard work.

They said while the man was talking to the victim, the woman managed to slip off the victim’s bracelet and necklace without noticing her, and replaced them with fake ones.

Christie’s to Auction 127-Carat ‘Light of Peace’ Diamond

New York—On the back of the controversial yet record-setting Heidi Horten sale in Geneva, Christie’s is offering a special diamond at its New York “Magnificent Jewels” sale this spring.

Leading the June 7 jewelry auction is “The Light of Peace Diamond,” estimated to sell for between $10 million and $15 million.

The D-color, internally flawless, Type IIa, pear brilliant-cut diamond weighs 126.76 carats. It is being offered without reserve.

The stone was previously named the “Zale Light of Peace” when the Zale Corp. of Dallas, which is now part of Signet Jewelers Ltd., owned it.
