The Koh-i-Noor and Cullinan diamonds: Crown jewels have fraught history

For decades, Britain has been giving back its spoils of empire: the Stone of Scone to Scotland in 1996, Hong Kong to China in 1997 and, most recently, some of the Benin bronzes, with perhaps more to follow.

But, so far, that spirit of returning what was taken has not extended to the British crown jewels — specifically to the Koh-i-Noor diamond, which will be kept out of sight during King Charles III’s coronation Saturday, and the Cullinan diamonds, which will feature heavily.

Rare of rare ‘diamond within diamond’ unearthed in India

A company in India’s Surat says it has unearthed a unique “diamond within a diamond” – one of the rarest of the rare when it comes to such stones.

The firm VD Global has given the rare piece the moniker the ‘Beating Heart,’ and says it consists of a piece of diamond that had another smaller piece trapped inside, and that was moving freely, according to Times of India.

The 0.329-carat stone was initially found in the rough in October last year by the diamond manufacturer which operates from Surat and Mumbai and has a business spread globally.

GABORONE, March 9 (Reuters) – Botswana will not drop its demand to sell a bigger share of the diamonds produced by its joint venture with De Beers, President Mokgweetsi Masisi said on Thursday, raising the stakes in talks to renew a sales deal that expires in June.

Fire accident – 20 residents trapped in Diamond City North fire in Nagerbazar

A fire broke out in a flat on the 16th floor of a 17-storey building at the Diamond City North housing complex in northeast Kolkata’s Nagerbazar and spread to two more apartments on Wednesday afternoon.
