Luxury hideaways found in Scandinavia - luxury hideaways
Lilløy Lindenberg is a remote private island in Norway.

Scandinavian hideaways offer solitude, quiet living, and winter environments without the crowds. One such hideaway is Lilløy Lindenberg, a remote private island in Norway, which joined the Small Luxury Hotels of the World portfolio this year along with 37 other unique boutique properties.

This secluded island is reachable by boat ride and features a spacious four-bedroom house that hosts just 10 guests at a time. The interiors have a Scandinavian design with contemporary touches and local decor. The use of handmade ceramics and glassware adds a touch of authenticity to the interior design, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere for guests.

On the island, guests can kayak, feast on freshly harvested seaweed, and gather around a fire under the stars. The island’s changing seasons offer a different experience on each visit, from the midnight sun in summer to rugged waves in winter. The island’s quaint herb garden and sauna complete with bathtub are additional amenities that allow guests to unwind and connect with nature.

Another luxury stay is Skyra Retreat in Finnish Lapland, located about 20 minutes from Rovaniemi Airport. The retreat’s architecture mirrors the surrounding environments and draws inspiration from Nordic design. A prime example of this is the Old Schoolhouse, a carefully restored 1960s village building located at the heart of the property, which now houses luxury accommodation, blending seamlessly into the natural surroundings.

The retreat features luxury accommodation, including the Grande Suites with hand-restored log walls, private saunas, and freestanding bathtubs. The spa is an open-air sanctuary with saunas, heated outdoor jacuzzis, and cold plunges. The spa’s design is inspired by the Finnish thermal cycle of heat, cold, rest, and repeat, providing a unique and rejuvenating experience for guests.

Guests can enjoy à la carte breakfast, lunch, and afternoon coffee and pastries, as well as a curated three-course dinner rooted in seasonality and Nordic provenance. For more information, visit Lilløy Lindenberg’s website or Skyra Retreat’s website.
